Other Details: A copper medal issued by the Shire of Oxley to commemorate the sesquicentenary of Victoria in 1984-5. Oxley is situated on the King River, 12 km. south-east of Wangaratta and west of Beechworth. It developed on crossroads to gold diggings in the early 1850s. It became a shire in 1865 and became part of the new Wangaratta Rural City Council in 1994.

Physical Description

A copper medal issued by the Shire of Oxley to commemorate the sesquicentenary of Victoria in 1984-5. It features the Shire Shield which depicts themes of rural industry and the motto, VIS UNITA FORTIOR and the sesquicentenary logo.

Obverse Description

At centre below a ribbon with the motto VIS UNITA FORTIOR, the Oxley Shire Shield which idepicting two forms of plants, a plough in front of a wheat sheaf and a cow grazing; around, SHIRE OF . OXLEY .
