Part of an Australian, air raid precautions Civil Defence uniform 1941-1945. According to the donor, 'SP' stands for 'stretcher party'. The uniform was worn over civilian clothes.

Although in this instance the letters'SP' apparently stand for 'stretcher party','SP' on military uniforms may alternatively stand for Service Police (the military police of the British Armed Forces), Shore Patrol (US Navy) or Security Police (USAF).

Physical Description

Steel helmet with brim all round. Button at top of crown. Kahki cloth chin strap with metal buckles, gathered near helmet on either side.
