Device used to transmit signals in an electric telegraph system. It converted a pattern of perforations on a continuous paper tape into pulses of electrical current representing letters and numbers according to a defined code. These pulses could then be transmitted over the telegraph line to the receiving station.

Physical Description

Wooden base on top of which is brass frame with tape mechanism attached to one side. Attached cable and plug. Wooden base has 5 brass screw terminals along on side, 3 terminals at one end and 2 terminals at the other end.
