Metal Hand Shears, circa 1960s-1980s. Used by visually impaired workers in the matmaking workshop at the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind to trim the top of mat pile. The hand shears, the same sort used to shear sheep, were replaced by electric shears in 1986.

Physical Description

Two metal blades screwed together at the handle end and kept together at cutting end with a piece of rope.
