Drivers Licence No 738 037 issued to Samuel L Gung on 18 May 1951 certifying he could drive a motor car on any public highway in the State of Victoria for the year ending 16 May 1952. Samuel was born in Carlton in 1920 to Chinese parents. At a young age he travelled to China with his family where he remained to finish his education and marry. In 1947 he returned to Melbourne with his wife and two children. He worked with his father at the Geraldton Fruit Company, and had four more children in Australia. The Gung family collection documents their experiences of immigrating and living in Australia from the 1920s to the 1960s and the gradual easing of the White Australia policy.
