General Description

Body mottled dark brown and white, underparts white with many dark brown "V" marks. Eye yellow, bill light grey. Young birds are mainly white on the face with streaked underparts. Body up to 65 cm long.

Biology

Powerful Owls are the largest owls in Australia. They usually roost in tall trees with dense leaves. They are active at night. Powerful Owls are active predators, feeding mainly on medium-sized marsupials such as gliders and possums.

Distribution

South-eastern mainland Australia.

Habitat

Open woodlands.
