This item is one part of a two-piece Winchester-Colt commemorative match set produced by Colt and Winchester of which only 4440 were produced in 1983. The unusual number produced relates to the popular Winchester calibre, .44-40. The set original came cased in an oak case lined in red material, and included the Colt Single Action Army in .44-40 cal., factory blued with gold over-lay of Colt's Hartford factory on the barrel, 'WC' monogram, and Colt's signature on the backstrap; a Winchester Model 94 Carbine in .44-40 cal., also factory blued with gold over-lay of the Winchester factory on the barrel, 'WC' monogram and Winchester's horse and rider trademark; and two large medallions, one Winchester and one Colt. In 1986 Colt began selling the Single Action Army revolvers of this set seperately.
