Summary

This object was used a toy that was rolled or pulled along the ground by the string. Buoys or floats attached to a rope during hunting dugong have a very similar form.

Physical Description

A short length of mangrove wood with a groove cut around the centre. A length of vegetable fibre string is wound around the groove and secured with a knot.

Significance

Examples of objects made for Aboriginal children to use in play were not commonly collected in the early twentieth century. This is a rare example of this type of toy.
