  • Rock Description

Carbonaceous Shale. "Glenronald Shale Member". A fine grained, shale-siltstone, dark grey coloured, heavily stained with iron oxides. The specimen is from the Glenronald Shale Member of the Fairview Andesite Breccia, which is part of the Mount Stavely Volcanic Complex. The Glenronald Shale has been described as laminated black pyritic shale, laminated grey volcanic siltstone and minor black chert. Previiously classified as a sedimentary siliceous shale. This specimen is not the black pyritic shale nor is it the black chert, only leaving it to be the laminated grey volcanic siltstone.
