General Description

Body grey with small black spots on the wings. Triangular yellow-green bill with a black tip. Legs dark pink and webbed feet black. Body up to 1 m long.


Cape Barren Geese breed from May to August. Nests consist of a mound of grass and sticks, with the interior lined with downy feathers. They feed on pasture grasses and are usually seen in pairs or small flocks.


Scattered populations in southern mainland Australia and Tasmania


Coastal grasslands and wetlands.
