General Description

A pink sponge species with encrusting form. Size of about 30 cm.


These sponges will sometimes grow on scallop shells. This species was previously called Aplysilla rosea which occurs around the world. In 2018 those from New Zealand and Australia were recognised as Dendrilla rosea.


New Zealand. Port Phillip and coastal Victoria.


Reef and jetty areas, at depths of 0-600 m.
