Denarius issued by Octavian who, in 27 BC, became Augustus the first Roman Emperor. Minted by an Uncertain mint in Italy, probably at Brindisium near Octavian's naval headquarters or Rome. This issue was once thought to have been from an Eastern mint. This coin formed part of a war coinage for troop payments after the Battle of Actium, perhaps issued in relation to the demobilization and settlement of troops.
