Copy of photographic negative showing part of the James Cook Bicentenary exhibition, 1970. This exhibition was held in conjunction with the National Museum of Victoria and the State Library of Victoria and coincided with the Science Museum's centenary celebrations. The cannon in this photograph was one of six rescued from the Endeavour Reef between 1968-9 by American scientists. This cannon was expelled by the crew of the H.M. Bark 'Endeavour' when the ship ran aground on the reef in 1770.
