Granulated with large 5 pointed star at centre
This was the standard pagoda of Madras, referred to as the Madras Current or Star Pagoda from 9 April 1741. This type of coin was made legal tender in New South Wales in November 1800 after a Proclamation by Governor King. Its value in the Colony was set at eight shillings.
