Significance

The Mil, or 1/000th dollar, was introduced in 1863, struck at the Royal Mint, London. Three variations are recorded - the first has the Chinese character "Wen" to the left of the hole and HONG-KONG (1863-1865), the second has the "Wen" but HONG KONG (1865) and the third has the Chinese character "Ch'ien" to left of the hole and HONG-KONG (1866)
