The florin was introduced into circulation in 1849 as a first step towards decimal coinage. This coin is the accepted pattern for the florin prepared in 1848.

Obverse Description

Four crowned shields arranged to form a cross about a central rose, the shields bear the arms of England (1 & 3), Scotland (2) and Ireland (4); between shields and each beneath an arch, 2 roses, thistle and shamrock; around above, ONE FLORIN; around below, ONE TENTH OF A POUND
