Slipping clutch - part of an electric 5 hole paper tape winder, using a 78 rpm gramophone motor. The rest of the winder is missing.

The clutch allowed a smooth operation of the winder, preventing juddering starts or stops. 16mm film reels were used to hold the 5 hole paper tape.

The tape winder was designed by John Spencer of the CSIRO Division of Building Research.

Physical Description

Irregularly shaped metal object. It has a central bar, with finger grip at tip, attached to moveable clutch disk.
