Bag containing spare parts for German MG (Maschinengewehr) 08/15 machine gun. The bag, with paper components, was made in Germany during World War I and captured during war-time.

Paper was used as a substitute - 'ersatz' - by Germany during World War I, 1914-1918. This bag was acquired by Museum Victoria in 1924 from the Australian War Memorial - State War Torphy Committee. The Australian War Memorial holds other German 'ersatz' material from World War I.

Physical Description

Spare parts bag with paper components. Secured by buckles and leather straps. Blue-grey colour. Contents: tongs, brush, two spanners (one with hammer head), tin of parts, tin of grease, oil container and spare fusee spring.
