Thermometer manufactured by Cary and used by Andrew Jack on Ernest H. Shackleton's Trans-Antarctic Expedition, 1914-1917. Calibrated -80 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
This is part of Museum Victoria's collection of artefacts from the 'Heroic Era' of exploration of Antarctica.

Glass thermometer with red liquid (possibly alcohol) inside mounted on wooden block with metal plate (discoloured to pale green) and hook at top for hanging.


This is a significant artefact from the little-known Ross Sea Party of Ernest Shackleton's Trans-Antarctic Expedition.
