Summary

Colourised postcard of the French ship La Lorraine at the Le Harvre port. The La Lorraine was a French steamship built in 1899 as part of a pair with La Savoie. In the early 20th century she served as a passenger liner between Le Harve and New York until August 1914 when she was converted for troop transport as an auxillery cruiser. She returned to civilian service in 1919 and was scrapped in 1922.

Acquired as part of a collection of material relating to the World War I service of brothers John and Albert Victor Peile. The missive on the back of the postcard is signed by 'Jack,' which is actually a reference to John Peile as ST 40697 is also signed from ‘Jack’ and lists his service number (2662) with the return address.
