Item ST 42138 Word Processing System - Olivetti, Model DE 523, circa 1975

Summary

Olivetti Model DE 523 word processor, comprising integrated unit with screen, 2 cassette tape drives and keyboard in single casing. Keyboard has 24 special function keys devoted to word processing. Made by Olivetti in Italy about 1975.

This unit had a "futuristic" design, with the monochrome monitor supported by an arm reaching up from behind the keyboard, Unfortunately the design dated rapidly.

Physical Description

Comprising integrated unit with screen, 2 cassette tape drives and keyboard in single casing. Cassette tape jammed in left hand cassette drive.

Glenn Johnson Posted on 05 May 2014 at 02:25 AM GMT+10:00 I used to work for the United Friendly Insurance Company Head Office, Southwark, London, UK and during the late 1970s we had 2 of the Olivetti DE523 systems installed in our Secretariat department for a few years. We used to key data to one of the cassette tape while the other cassette tape loaded up the program. Ted Brown of our Data Processing Department used to write the program cassettes for us and read the keyed data into his Redifon (later ROCC) Seecheck System. The 2 DE523's ware eventually replaced by 2 Redifon Terminals. Regards

Un risultato de 523 rispetto alla de 521 con una cassetta . Ottimo sistema che supportata anche la linea telefonica. Saluti Michele Di Marco
