Litmus Paper. Johnson and Sons manufacturing chemists Ltd Hendon London. Litmus, a moss juice extract, was a traditional acid/alkali indicator, and changes colour around neutral pH. It was commonly supplied as strips of paper dyed with acidic or alkaline litmus. Modern indicator papers dyed with synthetic dyes, being much more versatile or precise have supplanted litmus.
