Sharpening Machine manufactured by Thorvald Clasen, circa 1950s-1970s. This sharpening machine is an attachment to the Thorvald Clasen trimming machine used in the matmaking workshop Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind from 1986 until it closed down in 1992. It fitted along the top of the machine and was used to sharpen the blades. Instructions for attachment and sharpening blades are given in the trimming machine specifications. The machine was previously used to make mats at Pentridge Prison.

Physical Description

Long, green metal machine which attaches to trimming machine. Front has cog at each end with chain running between them. Chain attaches to a grinding stone encased in green metal box adjusted by small wheel. Handle on right hand cog moves grinding stone along the length of the machine.
