This badge was made in 1986 as part of the Palm Sunday Rally titled Disarm/Feed the World, organised by People for Nuclear Disarmament. The organisation had been active since the sixties, with the Victoria branch formed in 1981 in Melbourne, and was vocally resisting uranium mining, nuclear power and the presence of American bases on Australian territory. The inititative to hold peaceful marches on Palm Sunday started in the early 1980s and has been carried on into the 21st century. In the 80s, the attendance at these rallies was significantly higher than the Moratorium marches. The 1984 Palm Sunday was the largest national protest action in Australian history, with 150,000 participants in Sydney, 100,000 in Melbourne, and thousands more in other cities and regional centres. In 1968, the PND initially wanted to adopt opposition to the Pine Gap base as a theme, but instead chose 'Disarm/Feed the World'.
