Insurance proposal taken out by master builder David Mitchell to insure Kauri timber flooring and posts, valued at £400, against fire. The timber was stored in a shed on Mitchell's property in Richmond, Victoria. The timber was likely used in the construction of the (Royal) Exhibition Building, commencement of which began on 19 February 1879.

This document was donated by Jim Gorman's daughter. Gorman worked for, and became manager of, the Mitchell Family Estate 'Doonside'.

Fire Insurance Proposal by Victoria Fire and Marine Insurance Company for David Mitchell dated September 13, 1878. Policy is on mauve paper with black text and handwritten particulars. Policy will cover Oregon and pine floor boards and lining boards held on Mitchell's premises.
