Available for purchase at Melbourne's first international exhibition, the record provides a brief history of the Victorian colony, a synopsis of exhibitions throughout history, and a complete catalogue of exhibitors with jury reports and prizes. There are a number of advertisements throughout the publication.

The Melbourne International Exhibition, 1 October 1880 - 30 April 1881, was held in the (Royal) Exhibition Building, Carlton Gardens. Over 1.3 million people from all parts of the world visited the exhibition at a time when Melbourne's population was only 282,000.

Physical Description

Book, maroon and green hardback with gold edging and decorative work on spine. Within the 364 pages of this official catalogue are a plan, contents, lists of commissioners, list of exhibiting countries and states, and their exhibits with some small black and white illustrations of such. Inside front cover and pages are decorated with brightly coloured patterns.
