Treadle Singer sewing machine, purchased by Vincenzo Candela for 26 pounds on 16 March 1923 (possibly paid in 6 pound instalments). After his arrival in Australia, from Italy in 1920, at the age of 47 Vincenzo established himself as a tailor, eventually establishing a successful 'Gents' High Class' tailoring business from home. He had learnt the trade of dressmaking in Italy, most likely in Naples, a city at that time renowned for its tailors.

Physical Description

Metal sewing machine, painted black, rectangular base. There is a treadle for the machine, which is currently unattached. The machine originally would have been housed in a wooden stand.
