Alternative Name(s), House Dress, Work Dress, Uniform

Plain cream dress with simple buckle belt. Possibly a work dress in home or an environment such as a cafeteria or food manufacturer. A similar uniform is shown in a World War I photograph of women war workers operating a cutting machine at a biscuit factory, in the collection of the Australian War Memorial collection - H07844.

Physical Description

Cream-coloured Fuji silk dress opening at upper front and long sleeves gathered to cuff. Dress is waisted, with a tie front with six buttons originally (one is missing) and one pocket on the left front. Belt attached at rear centre, with small square buckle for securing at front. There is a minimum of detailing, and repairs have been made to the armholes without great regard to appearance.
