This painting depicts dhapalany, centipedes or "itchy" caterpillars as they are commonly known, that appear in great numbers at the beginning of the wet season. This and the emergence of snakes from the waterholes are signal that the monsoonal rains are coming, and the triangular motif represents the clouds. The work is a segment of a larger epic story relating to the sacred waterhole at Mirarrmina.
