Copy of a medal of Johan van Oldenbarnevelt. The original medal, by an unknown artist, was made in 1619. This uniface electrotype copy was made circa 1881 by Robert Ready. The electrotype is uniface and has been copper plated and toned but is probably from the original silver medal in the British Museum collection, Reg. M.2113 which has a reverse of a branch dividing a motif. Johan van Oldenbarnevelt (14 September 1547 - 13 May 1619) was a Dutch statesman who played an important role in the Dutch gaining for independence from Spain.
