Summary

Copy of a medal of Baldassarre Vigarani of Reggio. The original medal, by Pastorino de' Pastorini was made in 1554. This Electrotype copy made circa 1881 by Robert Ready. The original medal from the collection of George III (Reg: G3,IP.1129) was exhibited in the King's Library of the British Museum in 1881 and is No. 137 in the catalogue of that exhibition. It is thought that this electrotype was produced in association with that exhibition and publication and acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria where it was displayed in the late 1880s. (Note: the original medal is cast lead, this copy has been copper plated).

Baldassarre wrote of the passage of the Neapolitan army through Reggio in 1617 (according to the King's Library catalogue, 1881, p.49, but the date seems late as he died in 1563). He was a merchant in Reggio.
