Copy in two halves of a medal of Nicolo Micheli of Venice. The original medal was made circa 1500 by Fra Antonio of Brescia. This Electrotype copy made circa 1881 by Robert Ready. The original medal was acquired by the British Museum and later exhibited in the King's Library in 1881. It is No. 28 in the catalogue of that exhibition. It is thought that this electrotype was produced in association with that exhibition and publication and acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria where it was displayed in the mid 1880s.

Nicolo was "Patrician of Venice, an orator and philosopher. In 1493 he was sent as ambassador to Charles VIII of France, when the latter was at Milan. In 1499 he was made Procurator of St. Mark's." King's Library catalogue p.10. The portrait on the reverse is of his wife.
