This is a man's basket and was decorated with parrot feathers. The string "arms" attached to the basket may be from a ceremonial object.

Physical Description

A twined conical basket made from pandanus with a close weave and painted with natural pigments. Horizontal bands are defined by the use of natural pigments and the strips of red cotton cloth and human hair string stitched around the body of the basket. Remants of a multi-strand vegetable fibre string handle are attached to the rim at the back of the basket.
