Summary

A handbag that combines three different stitching techniques of coiling, looping and scalloping and undyed and yellow dyed pandanus. The three strand braid handle is knotted onto the middle of the handbage that is attached at opposite corners.

Physical Description

A pandanus bag with broad bands of coiling, knotted looping and scallop stitch. The stripes alternate between undyed and dyed/orange coloured pandanus. The three strand braid handle is knotted at the mid point and it is attached to the opposite edges of the rim.

Significance

The single plaited handle used in this pandanus bag is typical of the type made by Eileen Nabegeyo as well as Joscelyn Maralngura and Heather Nawirridj, all fibre artists at Gunbalanya.
