Summary

Baskets with open structures for the body and bottom such as this are known as badjkid/djerrh. They have characteristics of baskets that were desired by missionaries; a flat bottom, handles, no ochre and no twining. This bucket basket also resembles a bag in its length, and has been looped, with horizontal bands of dyed and undyed pandanus.

Physical Description

Bucket basket, looped, with horizontal bands of dyed pandanus (orange, yellow, brown) and undyed pandanus. The single braided handle is attached in the middle of the basket on opposite sides.

Significance

Marietta makes open looped forms in pandanus. In addition to her fibre work she is employed by the store and the school in Gunbalanya.
