Summary

This loosely coiled basket is characteristic of the artists style of work. In this one, blocks of colour extend to the single coiled handle, berldjanklarlang. Kunwinjku women make baskets and bowls that resemble household items. This basket with its round flat bottom form and handle is known by the Kunwinjku term 'badjkid'.

Physical Description

Basket, coiled, with horizontal bands and solid blocks of dyed pandanus (brown, orange, green and white). The coiled pandanus hande is attached in the middle of the bag on opposite sides.

Significance

Miriam Nganjmirra produced loosely coiled twined baskets, such as this example, sometimes with additions of plaited pandanus. She practiced basket making until her death in 2004.
