This basket by Amy Namarnyilk has been looped and coiled, using pandanus dyed using wet season colours. The handle on the basket, which is sometimes called kunberl or berl, is quite distinctive, and comes from the influence of missionaries.

Physical Description

Bucket basket, looped and coiled, with horizontal bands of dyed pandanus (orange, purple and green) and undyed pandanus with a plaited finish. The coiled button handle is attached in the middle of the basket on opposite sides.
