Summary

The saucepan basket is an open, oval shaped basket; in this case it has been coiled with horizontal bands of dyed and undyed pandanus. Saucepan baskets also have two side handles or arms, predominately made by one coil that peels away from the main structure and then rejoins the other coils. The saucepan basket is not only about technical perfection of forms but about an eloquent sense of colour. The stiches are placed tight and close together, which intensifies the colour saturation.

Physical Description

Oval shaped basket, coiled, with horizontal bands of dyed pandanus (purple, pink, orange and brown) and undyed pandanus. It has two short rigid coiled handles that emerge from the last coil bundle at the rim on opposite sides.
