Summary

This coiled basket has been made in a bicornical form with horizontal bands of dyed and undyed pandanus. The bands are made with alternating open and closed coiling technique. Roslyn Nayilibidj is known for her experiments with raw bark fibre and string, frequently producing asymmetrical forms.

Physical Description

Basket, coiled, in a bicornial form with horizontal bands of dyed pandanus (purple and brown) and undyed pandanus. The horizontal bands are made with alternating open and closed coiling technique. The plaited pandanus handle is attached in the middle of the bag on opposite sides.

Significance

Roslyn was one of the artists who travelled to museums in 2004 to examine historic works for the exhibition and book Twined Together. Roslyn experiments with raw bark fibre and string, frequently producing asymmetrical forms.
