Short paper with diagrams read to the Royal Society of New South Wales on 7 August 1889 by Lawrence Hargrave. In this paper Hargrave discusses his various experiments with an off-centre crank engine later to be developed as the rotary engine. He also discusses his experimental work with propellors and what he called the 'trichoided plane' screw-driven flying machine model. The paper includes eight diagrams showing these developments. This paper was formerly held in the library of the Melbourne Observatory.
