Envelope for a telegram addressed to Robert Salter dated 2 September 1938. The telegram informs Robert that both his applications seeking permission to remain in Australia have been declined, but that the decision may be reconsidered with evidence of employment, business or financial security.

Robert Salter, migrated to Australia from Austria, fleeing Vienna just before the German annexation of Austria in 1938. Robert eventually obtained a visa for Australia and permission to bring both his fiancee and parents out from Austria with the help of Federal MP William Maloney who befriended him.
