1/2 Anna coin, 1945 VS (1888-1889 AD) issued by Maharaja Shivaji Rao of the Indore Princely State, India.
Milled copper coinage struck at the Indore mint
Bull reclining facing left; around, legend in Sanskrit characters.
At centre within a bead circle, legend giving the denomination and in the third line the date in Vikram Samvat system, '1945'; around, a closed floral wreath.
The arms of Indore includes an image of Nandi, the bull sacred to Shiva in a pose like that on this coin. The coin was issued by Shivaji Rao one of the Holkar rulers of Indore by whom Shiva was specially adored.
