The Union of the Women of France was established in 1881. In the 19th century there were several organisations operating in France that provided voluntary medical assistance and aid to both military and civilians alike. A merge of organisations eventually led to the French Red Cross being formed. The International Federation of Red Cross was founded in 1919 in Paris in the aftermath of World War I.

Physical Description

Oval nickel medal with loop at top through which, a white ribbon with red cross; a bar with pin at back at top of ribbon. The obverse features the cypher UFF at the centre; around, UNION DES FEMMES DE FRANCE; on the bar, CROIX ROUGE FRANCAISE. The reverse is plain.
