Anzac Day marks the anniversary of Australia’s first major involvement in World War I: an attack by Australian, New Zealand and British forces on the Gallipoli Peninsula of Türkiye. The campaign was waged stubbornly for eight brutal, bitter months, ending in failure. One of those killed was Captain Edward Albert McKenna, whose photos are treasured by Museums Victoria. Anzac Day is now a day of national remembrance, when Australians reflect on the meanings and impacts of war.
To celebrate World Book Day we are highlighting some special items from our library’s Rare Book Collection. The Museums Victoria Library dates back to the 1850s and is one of Victoria’s historic library collections.
