Microsoft Chart version 1 was a business graphics program and was released in 1984.

The program provided a variety of pre-designed charts, for example pie and bar charts.

Microsoft was quick to recognise the future potential of the graphical user interface introduced by the Macintosh in 1984, and developed a complete suite of business applications - Word, MultiPlan, Excel, Chart and File for release in that year. The experience gained helped Microsoft develop its own graphic user interface called Windows and to develop Windows versions of its business applications. This gave Microsoft a vital edge over WordPerfect and Lotus, its major rivals in the Windows environment.

Part of a representative collection of hardware, software, trade literature and promotional material that documents the history of the Apple company, and its contribution to, and impact on the computer industry and society.
