Summary

The airy quality of this dyed pandanus basket is created by connecting wrapped coils with knots spaced along the rows. The colours used come from a wet season palette and the intensity of the colours is determined by the amount of dyestuff and the amount of raw material placed in the dye bath.

Physical Description

Basket, coiled and knotted, with solid bands of lace stitch in dyed pandanus (purple, green, white and orange) and undyed pandanus. It has a rigid handle consisting of single coils emerging from the last coil bundle on each side the rim. These two coil bundles have then been stitched together using plaiting to form a single handle.
