This medal was instituted in 1923 as an army general service medal excluding service in India, East, West and Central Africa. It was never issued without a bar to indicate the campaign it was awarded for.

Obverse Description

Bare head of King George V facing left; around, 'GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:'; the artist's initials B.M. (Bertram MacKennal) are on the neck truncation.

Reverse Description

Britannia as Victory - helmeted and holding a trident in left hand, winged and extending a laurel wreath in right over a pair of wings set about a radiant globe above an inverted sword; the artist's initials E.CR.P. (E. Carter Preston) above the groundline to left of Britannia.
