Captain John Duigan, MC, Australian Flying Corps circa 1918-19. Duigan served with No. 3 Squadron AFC in France where he received the Military Cross for his actions on 9 May 1918 when his RE8 was shot down by Vizefeldwebel Franz Hemer of Jasta 6 near Cachy. Duigan and his observer Lt Alec Paterson were badly wounded but Duigan managed to land his machine and save their lives as well as the photographic plates they had taken.
