Device used to transmit signals in an electric telegraph system. It converted a pattern of perforations on a continuous paper tape into pulses of electrical current representing letters and numbers according to a defined code. These pulses could then be transmitted over the telegraph line to the receiving station.

Physical Description

Metal base carrying metal baseplate with vertical metal endplate. Electric motor attached to baseplate. Endplate carries tape-reading mechanism. Attached connecting cable and plug.
