This is a section of a deep sea telegraph submarine cable. The central conductor is surrounded by insulation, brass tape , more insulation, armouring wires, and an outer protective covering.

Physical Description

The central conductor is a strand of 7 copper wires. It is insulated with gutta percha or vulcanized rubber and protected by a wrapping of brass tape. The brass is covered with more insulation and wrapped with armouring wires. The armouring wires are covered by an outer protective coating.
